An Indian research group says it has developed a promising new antimicrobial additive based on silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The first commercial application may be polymer-silver nanocomposite films for wound dressing applications. “AgNPs combined with polymeric hydrogels offer a new class of materials that combine the antimicrobial properties of AgNPs with the human-tissue-like performance of hydrogels,” said lead author Sunil Bajpai, a polymer science PhD at the Government Model Science College in Jabalpur, India.
