Hyundai’s hydrogen crossover employs CFRP chassis

A super lightweight carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) chassis designed and built for the for the new Hyundai Intrado hydrogen-powered crossover concept car has been recognized at this year’s UK Composites Industry Awards. The Axontex 3D beam car chassis design was developed by Axon Automotive Ltd (part of Far-UK) in collaboration with Hyundai. A heated tip port fuel injector used on the Honda Fit and Honda City vehicles sold in Brazil to improve cold-start performance in ethanol-fueled vehicles has captured the most innovative use of plastics award in the powertrain category at last night’s 45th Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Automotive Innovation Awards Competition & Gala. BMW’s Carbon Core body snares EuroCarBody Award 2015

A car body construction that combines carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), auminum and steel has won the EuroCarBody Award 2015. Employed in the new BMW 7 Series, the Carbon Core body was given a rating of 41.87 out of 50 possible points – the best score ever to be obtained in the competition. Modified regulations for automotive glazing offers new design freedom

Recent modifications to ECE R43 regulations for automotive glazing in Europe position acrylic resin as an ideal material for small quarter car windows and materials supplier Evonik says it has the ideal material for the application in Acrylite Resist AG 100. Prior to the regulation modification, requirements called for a coating to scratch resistant materials.
