With automotive regulations governing fuel economy and CO 2 emissions being discussed globally, nearly half of automotive engineers predict those regulations will strengthen, according to a WardsAuto and DuPont (Wilmington, DE) survey conducted in July this year. Only eight percent predict regulations will relax, primarily due to economic and cost issues, and one-fourth expect no change, the results show. The developing Asia-Pacific region will account for 62% of overall growth in global automobile production between 2012 and 2017 according to the latest data from PwC Autofacts (New York, NY). The region, including key markets China and India, will contribute 62.0% of gains in vehicle assembly  over the period whereas developed Asia, which includes major auto producers Japan and South Korea, will see its output decline by 3.5%. New capacity for PVC slush-molding powders installed in Poland and China by compounder PolyOne (Cleveland, OH) targets long term growth forecast for automobile industries in these countries. Despite increasing restrictions on car ownership, Chinese passenger and commercial vehicle production grew by 4.6% to 19,271,808 vehicles in 2012 according to the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), although Polish production plummetted by 22.7% to 647,803 unit due to the Eurozone Crisis.
