Technology to significantly enhance the heat and impact resistance of a high-performance bio-polycarbonate resin has been developed by its Japanese supplier. Teijin Limited (Tokyo) has modified the molecular design of its Planext polymer to achieve greatly improved heat resistance with a glass-transition temperature of 120°C, as well as superior resistance to impact. Eastman: Fiber laser welding will boost medical role of copolyesters

Use of high-performance fiber lasers introduced at NPE 2012 may significantly advance use of a variety of clear plastics in medical applications, such as fluid bags now made from polyvinyl chloride. Eastman Chemical announced at MD&M West held in Anaheim, CA last month that the technology developed by IPG Photonics (Oxford, MA) has significant potential for advancing its clear copolyester plastics.
