Ecover to open its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Chicago

Ecover has decided to plant its U.S. manufacturing roots in the Windy City. The Belgium-based ecological cleaning brand recently announced that it will build a flagship manufacturing facility in the Pullman Park neighborhood on Chicago’s south side. The new space, which will bring about 100 manufacturing jobs to Chicago, comes after a long effort to bring the company’s first U.S manufacturing facility to Illinois. read more

Nypro expands; Jabil deal pushed back

Nypro, which is in the process of being acquired by Jabil Circuit to expand its plastics injection molding presence, is continuing previously planned expansion efforts. Irish officials announced yesterday that Nypro will establish a medical device manufacturing facility in Waterford, Ireland that will create 200 jobs. The economic effect of plastic bag bans

A study from the National Center for Policy Analysis claims that a ban on plastic bags used by grocers and retailers can negatively impact sales in the ban area and increase sales among stores just outside the bag ban region. The NCPA surveyed store managers in Los Angeles County, where a ban of thin-film bags took effect in July 2011. The group conducted a survey of 80 large stores such as supermarkets and variety shops affected by the ban.
