In his final State of the City address, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg called for a citywide ban on polystyrene foam food packaging from stores and restaurants. In June, Bloomberg introduced legislation to prohibit polystyrene foam. Bans of polystyrene foam for food packaging are nothing new. In fact, the first U.S. ban of general polystyrene foam was enacted in Berkeley, CA back in 1988.
