Chinaplas 2013: Low-cost shale gas gives North American polyamide ascendency in global markets

Thursday, May 30th, 2013 | Permalink

The benefits of the shale gas boom in North America have filtered down to polyamide (PA) 66 producer Ascend Performance Materials (Houston, TX). Low cost propylene derived from shale gas is now being used by the supplier to manufacture the key adiponitrile (AND) precursor, and then PA in an integrated manner, meaning it is cheaper to ship resin from North America to markets such as China than it is to ship the intermediates. Polyamide, polyester displace SMC in modular truck bumper

Monday, April 15th, 2013 | Permalink

Bumpers for trucks and heavy goods vehicles are being increasingly manufactured from thermoplastics. Unlike previous models, these bumpers are no longer produced as a single piece from sheet molding compounds (SMC). Instead, they are manufactured on a modular basis from several components, consisting of, for example, polyamide and polyester compounds from Lanxess (Leverkusen, Germany). This reportedly enables easier repair. Tagging Options Domain:  All Sites read more
