German plastics manufacturer  Klöckner Pentaplast Group has added to its global production capacity in Asia, the Americas and Europe. The company is investing €45.6 million ($60.25 million) as part of its 2013 and 2014 expansion plans, which include facilities in Cotia, Brazil; Suzhou, China; Newport/Crumlin, Great Britain; and Santo Tirso, Portugal. The developing Asia-Pacific region will account for 62% of overall growth in global automobile production between 2012 and 2017 according to the latest data from PwC Autofacts (New York, NY). The region, including key markets China and India, will contribute 62.0% of gains in vehicle assembly  over the period whereas developed Asia, which includes major auto producers Japan and South Korea, will see its output decline by 3.5%. It’s not a tax dodge–the tax still has to be paid. Automotive suppliers are well positioned to meet the demand for 2013 vehicle production volumes, assuming those volumes remain constant from 2012. That’s the tone set by the latest Automotive Supplier Barometer from the Original Equipment Suppliers Association released last week.
