The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Thermoforming Division has announced a call for nominations for the annual Thermoformer of the Year Award. The award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the thermoforming industry in a technical, educational or managerial capacity. Medical device export market remains strong

The outlook for medical device exports remains “very positive”, said Michael Taylor, senior director of  international trade for the Society of the Plastics Industry, in an interview before the SPI’s annual meeting and fall conference being held this week in Boston. Annual growth of medical device exports is expected to be in the 7% to 8% range, continuing a trend of the past three to four years, Taylor told Plastics Today. All Sites American medical device manufacturers are facing significant challenges but the medical device tax instituted as part of the Affordable Care Act is not one of them, says the new chairman of the Medical Plastics Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers. “The people who are saying that this (the device tax) is forcing all of our jobs offshore are full of horse hockey because it doesn’t matter where you make the product,” said Mark Bonifacio in an interview with Plastics Today. read more

The oldest and largest awards event in the automotive plastics industry will be held Nov. 6 in Livonia, MI under the theme “Plastics: Kick the Metal Habit”.
