Evonik develops sterilizable, transparent polyamide 12

At K 2013 in Düsseldorf, Germany, Evonik Industries introduced a new transparent polyamide that can be steam sterilized, closing the performance gap between polyamides (nylons) and polysulfone. There’s a trend toward higher-performing polymers in healthcare applications because sterilization processes “are becoming more aggressive. Polycarbonate and ABS are often not sufficient,” said Christiane Röhnke, business manager, medical devices, in the Performance Polymers group of Evonik in an interview with Plastics Today at the K fair.
